Do you know the situation, when you have tasks that come up every week and you have to write them down over and over again? What would you think if there was a solution for recurring tasks so that you only had to write them down once, and you were automatically reminded of them every week from now on?
monday.com makes it possible, thanks to its automations and workflows.
In this blog, we’ll tell you how you can automate recurring tasks on monday.com so you can save time and focus on the really important things.
Recurring tasks at the workplace
Recurring tasks are activities or obligations that must be carried out regularly at a specific time or interval. These can occur on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis and are often an integral part of work processes and routines.
Let’s take a look at an example:
Let’s say you’re part of a marketing team responsible for a company’s social media presence. One of your recurring tasks is to create a weekly report on the performance of your social media channels every Monday. This includes collecting data on engagement rates, follower growth, clicks, etc. and creating a report that is sent to the management team.
If you are working with a monday.com dashboard, you can create your “Create Social Media Weekly Report” task and also add sub-items that include specific tasks such as collecting data, analyzing statistics, etc. You can create these tasks once and turn them into a task that repeats every week with its sub-items on your dashboard to save time and keep a better overview of your tasks;

How to create recurring tasks in monday.com
A few examples of the automation of tasks
- Create a new group in each period
Example: In a small soap company, the board below is used to keep track of all the store’s stock orders each month. Every time a store needs to replenish a product, it requests the product and quantity via this board. You can then evaluate the figures at the end of the month to see how much should be produced in the factory.
As the groups on the board represent each month with the orders, a new group must be created at the beginning of each new month. A recurring automation was used so that a new group is created immediately every month.
To do this, click on the automation center and the builder for user-defined automations. From there, create the automation “Every time period, then create a group”:
Now you just need to adjust the formula as we have done below. You can select how often a new group is created, what name it has and when exactly it is created.
With this automation, we no longer have to remember to create a new group at the beginning of each month, as monday.com does this for us automatically.
- Create a new element in each period
If you have a single element (or task) that needs to be repeated from time to time, you can use a recurring automation to create it according to your desired rhythm.
In our example of a soap company, we manage the planning board below to keep track of daily tasks. In this case, we have a meeting every day that constantly needs to be added to our board.
To ensure that we have a new element for our daily meeting every day, we set up the following automation Now every morning at 10 a.m. a brand new element with the title “Daily Meeting” is automatically created for us!
